What makes the Giannini
Brass Quintet Workshop different from other summer band camps is the
focus on brass performance and education. All brass students will
perform in their own brass chamber ensemble, which will be coached
by a member of the Giannini Brass Quintet. The smaller ensemble setting
allows the opportunity to better reach students and to directly address
their individual needs as performers. This setting is also a great
way to teach fundamental lessons on balance, blend, intonation, and
phrasing, which students can then take back to their regular-year
programs.
Students can expect to participate in at least one chamber ensemble,
a secondary ensemble (orchestra, wind ensemble, or brass choir), a
daily theory and musicianship class, and master classes conducted
by the Giannini Brass Quintet and other professional guest artists
associated with the North Carolina School of the Arts. They will also
attend performances both on and off campus, and have a weekly private
lesson with a member of the Giannini Brass.
